Commitment to Caring

Michelle and Hershey Weisman

Michelle Weisman, with her husband, Hershey, gives both her time and her money to support residents at LAJH.

Caregiving is in Michelle Weisman's nature. At age five, she was helping raise her younger brothers. At 16, she was caring for her grandparents. And she didn't stop there. Today, Michelle owns and operates The Nest, a group of residential care facilities for senior citizens.

"Anyone who has a senior in need wants to know they're doing the right thing when they're placing them somewhere," Michelle says. "It's nice to have the comfort of knowing that your loved ones are cared for."

Michelle certainly found that comfort when her mother-in-law moved into Los Angeles Jewish Health. Although her mother-in-law stayed at the Home only one night before passing away, Michelle was deeply moved by her experiences there.

"Whatever services residents need, it's all there," Michelle says. "It's like its own city, and that's a beautiful thing."

Over the last five years, Michelle has become heavily involved with the Home, joining The Executives, a support group dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life and care. She's also served on the board, hosted fundraising events and started a women's group to encourage others to develop connections with the Home.

"Anyone can write a check," Michelle says. "But if you give your time and energy, too, that makes a really big difference."

Michelle's legacy of caring will continue into the future with a gift to the Home in her trust. "If I can make a difference to one resident, then it's worth it," she says.
