Just a few minutes with Sandy Tilsen Okada teaches you that she lives life with grace, joy and gratitude. Her gifts to Los Angeles Jewish Health reflect that philosophy and her passion for the Home.

"All the staff, up and down the line, are working to make this place the best place, a place where you want your family to be," Sandy says.

Sandy knows excellent care when she sees it, having spent her career as a pediatric, cardiac and public health nurse, as well as a nursing supervisor. She's been a fan of LAJH for many years, first visiting her Aunt Mabel, who was a resident. When Sandy needed a place for her father, Harry, she knew exactly where she wanted him to be.

She recalls "how cool it was" that Home staff remembered her from those visits to see Mabel and how accommodating they were, finding Harry a room quickly and really making him feel at home.

"My dad quickly became the hit of the place, and the nurses loved him. The staff was a huge help to me, too. They gave me peace of mind and were really there for me when I needed them," she says.

Sandy's gratitude for the care Mabel and Harry received is profound.

"I wanted my dad at the Home because I knew there he would be safe, he would be taken care of and they would handle everything. Because I was a nurse, I know how important that kind of care is," she says.

These positive experiences inspired Sandy to support LAJH with a future gift, making it part of her legacy and ensuring that other families can benefit as she did.

"I'm happy to do what I can now," she says. "I have the money, and I want to make good use of it. These gifts do that. And hopefully they will get others to give, too."
