A Charitable Gift Results in a Win-Win

Gilbert EpsteinGilbert “Gil” Epstein believes in contributing to his community. He built a successful 50-year career as a real estate appraiser and developer doing just that. Giving back through his professional endeavors wasn’t enough for Gil, though.

“There’s a saying that I read a long time ago,” Gil notes. “It says, ‘A person cannot go through life with catcher’s mitts on both hands. You have to be able to throw something back.’”

Gil saw an opportunity to throw something back when his late wife, Molly, was recovering from a health issue at Los Angeles Jewish Health. Every time he visited Molly, Gil got an inside look at how LAJH functioned and learned about its greatest needs.

After exploring several giving options, Gil decided to make a charitable gift annuity. This gift benefits LAJH and also provides Gil with an income. It’s a win-win, Gil says.

“If you go to a ball game or a fancy restaurant, you won’t remember what you saw or ate a week later. With a charitable gift like this, you keep getting something back for a long time,” Gil says.

Encouraged by a school friend with ties to LAJH, Gil also spent several years donating his time to The Guardians. This dedicated group of men and women are committed to supporting seniors’ care at LAJH.

Gil says, “When I realized that I could in some way to contribute to LAJH’s function and goal, it was a nice feeling. It added to my purpose.”
